New Year’s Resolution: Productivity!

January 23, 2018

By: Maria Camila Quijano

Shockers! 2018 is just around the corner and you might be wondering if you fulfilled last year’s resolutions. This will be my year! I want to change my eating habits and get fit. Do these phrases sound familiar to you? Start this year fresh by identifying five common habits we all fall into and how to beat them in order to become more productive.

#1 You keep saying you will start on Monday

I think this is one of the most common lies we tell ourselves, don’t get trapped into procrastination! Just get up and get it done.
Bruce Lee once said: “If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.”

#2 You’re drowning yourself in excuses
“I don’t have the time” “I’m too tired”, “I will never get it done”. It is true that sometimes we can feel overwhelmed with our daily chores and also feel that time flies, but there are 24 hours in a day and it is up to you whether you make the most of them or not. This has lots to do with bad habit #3.

#3 You’re not planning ahead

“I don’t have much time and planning takes up my time as well, how will this work?” You might think that setting daily goals must be exhausting and useless, but you can be positively surprised. Set estimate deadlines for your daily tasks and try to stick to them as much as you can, you may even find some extra hours available.

#4 You’re not motivated enough

What motivates you? You will probably want to analyze this question’s answer. After you’ve set your tasks’ deadlines, reward yourself with breaks, or even a snack! This can help you get more motivated and positive towards fulfilling your daily goals. But don’t go too hard on yourself if you’re not able to fulfill them, tomorrow is a brand new day full of new opportunities.

#5 You’re not prioritizing

We are forced into taking important decisions on a daily basis that determine our pathway. It is very important to take into account, which things demand more of our attention and which don’t. In order to do so, you must be relaxed. We sometimes don’t make the best decisions when we are emotional, so take a deep breath, and let your inner self guide you.
Part of wanting to change, is recognizing that we are not perfect and have flaws. But it is not enough to just identify our weak points, it’s how we work on them that matters.
Carpe diem!
